Microsoft Publisher 98
Publisher is a great program to design your Web-Page. It downloads in 6 parts, the largest is 7 megs. The total download is aprox.16 megs. It could take quite a long time on a phone line. The only drawback I find with Publisher-98 is the fact that it gets to involved with tables when you build a large font page and the table code takes forever to download for a Web Surfer. Nothing happens on your screen until all the table code is in your computer. If you want to make a slight change to your page, it has to be done in publisher and if a new graphic is formed, you will have to upload your whole site, because all of your graphic names will be changed after the change, and that could take some time.

If you are into Desk Top Publishing, this program will do this very well.
Allaire HomeSite
HomeSite can be installed on your computer in a few minutes after it is downloaded. It is a HTML editor which means you will have to learn some html. Don't be frightened away because of this, I don't know much HTML code and I am using HomeSite to publish this page. It's about like using a word processor keyboard and having to spell return rather than hitting the enter key. HomeSite has a Quick Tab Icon Bar with everything you need to start a page, it's easy. Just try it out and get your feet wet, you may love or hate it.
The one setback I find with Homesite is the fact that I have to size any photos to the size I want to use on a web page, Publisher will do this task for you, and this has to be done on a photo editor. That's not a real problem because you need a photo editor anyway.

Jasc PaintShop Pro 5.0
If you don't have a scanner or camera or a TV card in your computer, no problem. Photos are a dime a dozen on the web and free clip-art is easy to come by. Design a title for your web page right from your keyboard, add a few overlays, make the background go away and save it as a GIF file. Then add this file to the top of your page or just drag it from the file list on the side of HomeSite. It's that easy. All you have to do is try it and that only costs you a little time. Download pictures from the web and edit them with Paintshop. Paintshop has an animation program that is very easy to work with. I learned to use it after a fassion in one night, you could also. You can also draw your own pictures and animate them with Paintshop. Make your name fade away after a few seconds. All kinds of neat stuff.

That's about all you need to get started on a fancy web site. I hope I was of some help
